About Us
Laura's Wig & Beauty Supply was founded in 1964 by Laura Brogard. Although our store is now run by her daughter, Kathy, and our location has changed over the years, we are still committed to providing compassionate and knowledgeable customer service to help you reach your hair goals. We are proud to have the largest selection of quality wigs and hairpieces north of Sacramento. Laura's also carries a wide variety of salon quality hair care products, hair color, jewelry, O.P.I. nail polish, manicure/pedicure tools, hair accessories, brushes, combs, styling tools, and more. We offer a 10% discount to licensed cosmetologists on all items (excluding wigs and hairpieces), and accept all forms of payment (cash, debit/credit card, check, and mobile tap-to-pay).
Wigs
Here at Laura's, we mainly carry synthetic wigs because they are more budget friendly and easier to maintain. We are always happy to special order human hair wigs on request. We offer complimentary wig sizing and trim with purchase of a wig to make it a perfect, custom fit. Walk-in consultations to try on wigs are welcome, but are subject to wait times based on availability of our staff. Come in or call to set up an appointment for a one-on-one consultation.
Our Human Hair extension stock includes clip-ons, keratin-tipped, tape-in, sew-on, and wefts. Our favorite option is the 7-piece clip-on human hair extension set by Fashion Source (CLIP ON 7PCS), we carry a wide selection of colors and they come in lengths ranging from 14"-22". Our helpful staff is happy to show you all of the extensions we have to offer
Extensions & Braiding Hair
We stock RastAfri synthetic fiber braiding hair in a variety of natural colors (FREED'M SILKY BRAID). Vibrant, pastel, and ombre packs can be special ordered on request.
We carry synthetic toppers, hair clip additions, and hair scrunchie additions by Tony of Beverly (our prices may differ from those listed on website).
We also offer the synthetic heat defiant EasiPart topper collection from Jon Renau.

Educational Resources
Hair Basics
- Healthy hair has a smooth cuticle outside and many proteins and melanin (natural pigment) strongly bonded together inside
- Hair has a natural pH of 3.5
- Shampoos & Conditioners with pH values between 3.5-6.5 work best for hair by smoothing the cuticle, reducing frizz, and helps prevent breakage
- Products and Treatments with a pH 7-14 can open the cuticle and leave hair vulnerable to moisture loss, fading of hair dye, and structural damage
Hair Damage
- Chemical processes, like coloring and perming, open up the cuticle to break down and reorganize bonds between internal proteins and natural pigments to alter color and texture
- When these bonds and proteins are damaged or destroyed, it can leave hair weak and porous
- Heated styling tools (blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc.) can flash boil the water and natural oils in your hair strands leading to damage to the cuticle and cortex
- Higher temperature and longer contact time can increase the risk of permanent blisters on the cuticle. Damaged cuticles are more prone to frizz, split ends, and breakage
Common Haircare Ingredients Explained
Sulfates
(Sodium Laurel/Laureth Sulfate): Common deep cleansing agent that produces a rich, bubbly lather. These can be harsh/irritating and lead to dry skin/hair, scalp inflammation, and color fade.
Phtalates (BBP, DBP, DEP, DIDP, DnHp):
Binding agent that helps distribute fragrance evenly throughout product. Can disrupt hormones and may harm kidneys, thyroid, liver, and immune system. Sometimes can be hidden in the ingredient list as "fragrance." Banned in the E.U.
Silicones (Dimethicone, PEG, Cyclomethicone, Amodimethicone):
Very common thickening agents used in both shampoos and conditioners. Can leave behind a waxy residue. Long term build-up can weigh down hair, reduce moisture levels, and increase breakage.
Parabens (Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben):
Preservative added to prevent mold/bacteria growth and extend shelf life. Quickly absorbed through our skin, parabens can interfere with hormone regulation and has been shown to increase succeptibility to breast cancer
Wig Cap Types
Traditional Machine-Sewn Cap
- Most common and affordable cap option
- Extra volume on crown area
- Part is not able to be restyled or changed
Monofilament Top (Mono-Top) Cap
- Fibers are hand tied to a layer of mesh for a more natural look
- Can be parted in any direction
Lace-Front/Lace-Part Cap
- The most natural looking hairline option
- Can have traditional base, full or partial monofilament top
Hand-Tied Cap
- Lines of wefts are replaced by individually hand-tied fibers for the most natural look from every angle
- Can be parted in any direction
- The most comfortable, lightweight, and breathable cap option
Alternative Hair Fibers
- Synthetic Fiber: Artificial fiber made of acrylic or nylon plastics that can vary in quality. Easier to maintain and holds style better than human hair. Most synthetic fibers are very vulnerable to heat becoming damaged, singed, or even melting when exposed to high levels of heat, some synthetic fibers are made to be heat resistant up to a specific temperature. Hairsprays and texture sprays can be used to add more body and hold, but do not use oils or leave-in conditioners as plastic cannot absorb these products like your natural hair.
- Kanekalon: Highest quality synthetic fiber available, flame retardant, soft, and lightweight
- Monofiber (Henlon): Durable, high heat resistant fiber available in a vast array of colors
- Polypropylene (PP or Polly): Earliest form of synthetic fiber, very shiny
- Human Hair: Sourced from variety of locations and donors all over the world. Can be colored and heat styled, but can also be easily damaged.
- Virgin: Human hair that has never been colored or chemically treated
- Remy: All strands of human hair are aligned in the same direction with the cuticle of all strands pointed naturally downward. Some non-Remy hair is chemically treated to remove the cuticle and results in weak and damaged hair
- 100% Human Hair: All fibers are from human origin. Some manufacturers try to pass off blends of human hair and synthetic fibers as "human hair", leading to issues with cleaning and styling
- Plant-Based: A new addition to the industry using sustainable plant fibers and proteins. Biodegradable and hypoallergenic, these fibers are more expensive than traditional synthetics, but more affordable than quality human hair (Laura's does not currently carry any products featuring this type of fiber)
